The Australian Garden Show Sydney

The show is part of NSW Events Calendar developed by Destination NSW on behalf of the NSW Government and will be the launch platform for the stunning series of floral and garden events taking place throughout regional NSW from spring onwards.

The show will be produced by AGB Events under the event direction of Anthony Bastic (Vivid Sydney Festival Director) and curated by award winning landscape designer, gardener and author Myles Baldwin.

Anthony Bastic said Centennial Park was the perfect backdrop for the Show. “NSW boasts some of our most beautiful open gardens making Sydney’s Centennial Park ideal to showcase the depth of expertise and creativity of Australia’s garden designers and horticulturists,” he said.

Curator Myles Baldwin, whose designs are renowned for their diverse plant material and the Sydney garden aesthetic of bold cultural choices, will be a major theme in his curatorial selection.

“The 1800’s Gardenesque style, which thrives in a sub-tropical temperate coastal climate and is so brilliantly executed in Centennial Park, has dominated the aesthetics of our parks and gardens for almost 200 years. The beauty of a Moreton Bay Fig adjacent to an English Oak and a stand of Cabbage tree palms is uniquely Sydney, where horticulture is on display in daring contemporary themes and striking style,” said Baldwin.

The spring timing will provide nurseries and display gardeners, retailers and audiences with the ultimate experience from intimate flowering blooms to towering landscape designs in a showcase that will rival the world for its display of rare and amazing horticulture.

“We are thrilled to host this garden show that will become an iconic international event, especially one so closely aligned with the values of the Parklands,” said Kim Ellis Director & Chief Executive, Centennial Parklands.

“With 2013 being Centennial Park’s 125th anniversary, The Australian Garden Show Sydney will be a major highlight event of our celebrations, offering a pinnacle opportunity to demonstrate the importance of Centennial Park for Sydney.”

The Australian Garden Show Sydney will combine compelling drawcards including display gardens designed by leading landscape architects, workshops presented by gardening gurus and personalities, products to purchase and a high tea marquee which, come nightfall, transforms into a floral cocktail bar setting – complemented by the now established Centennial Park Light Garden.

“My vision is to create an interactive, stylish event which brings together local and multinational design studios, landscaping companies, cottage nurseries and horticultural societies, to inform and engage the public whilst building awareness of how our connection with gardens contributes to the way we live.”

The full Australian Garden Show Sydney program will be released in April 2013 along with ticket sales. Further information will be made available at:
