“Decorative, hallucinogenic and bold” Financial Times
Take a walk on the wild side as high heels, billowing gowns and Handel collide in spectacular fashion.
Vivienne Westwood’s outrageous costumes find a dramatic outlet in this bold take on Handel’s Semele. The heroine is the prototype of 20th century punk. Her descent into madness is brought to life on a gleaming white runway adorned with pouting models in gold boots, silk crinolines and extravagant earrings. Jupiter appears in sequinned kilt and diamond-studded socks as befitting the King of the Gods.
The music is vibrant, varied and wild. The outstanding Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop joins forces with Sydney Philharmonia Choirs for a truly magical transformation of this rarely performed opera.
Tactile tour and audio description of the set and costumes with synopsis of the production (performance not described): January 15 at 6pm, prior to the 8pm performance. To book, please call 02 8248 6500.
