Francis Bacon: five decades

Widely acknowledged as one of the world’s greatest painters, Francis Bacon’s work is gutsy, controversial and unforgettable. Through the beauty of paint Bacon lays bare the struggles of the human condition.

This summer, see the first exhibition in Australia of rare works by this master of post-war British art. With over 50 paintings – many of them monumental in size – the exhibition covers every decade of his career. Included in the exhibition is archival material and photographs taken from his chaotic studio which offer a fascinating insight into this artist and his creative process.

The exhibition has been three years in the making with works drawn from 37 of the world’s leading art museums including the Tate London, Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

During the exhibition there will be free documentaries on the life and work of Francis Bacon screened daily from 12-3pm.

The exhibition will be accompanied by an extensive program of events as well as education programs and resources. Visit our website for more information.

Part of the Sydney International Art Series, bringing the world’s most outstanding exhibitions to Australia.
