Sydney is Fashion 2013!

sponsored by City of Sydney

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA) is the nation’s premier fashion industry event and reinforces Sydney’s position as Australia’s fashion capital and home of the creative industries. Through its three-year sponsorship, the City of Sydney will be celebrating Sydney as a style capital by bringing all the event action to Sydneysiders via a live site at Martin Place. All of the runway shows will be broadcast on a giant screen and drinks will be available courtesy of the MBFWA pop-up bar presented by Pelicano.

The City of Sydney has signed a three-year sponsorship agreement with MBFWA to ensure the annual event remains an unrivalled platform for showcasing Australian design talent to the world. This year’s line-up features a standout line up of rising talent, established brands and returning designers, half of which are Sydney-based. Importantly, the event provides these designers and the Australian fashion industry with a platform to discuss exciting business opportunities. This year the international trade event has moved from the Overseas Passenger Terminal to the artistic hub of Carriageworks in Eveleigh, confirming Redfern’s growing influence on the world of fashion and design.

It is estimated 30,000 national and international fashion experts, reviewers and buyers will attend MBFWA to preview the Australian designers’ 2013/14 Spring/Summer collections. The event will be also be showcased beyond its physical footprint in the digital world to over half a million facebook followers and through conversationalists and influential bloggers like Suzie Bubble, Brian Boy and Street Peeper.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia Bar presented by Pelicano
The City of Sydney wants to ensure that locals, workers and visitors to the city can be part of the action and has opened Martin Place, between Castlereagh and Pitt streets, to a pop-up food and bar venue where the daily catwalk activity will be streamed live on a giant screen. Operated by Double Bay eatery Pelicano, it will be open each day of Fashion Week from midday until 10 pm.

The live site will buzz throughout the week with more than 100,000 people passing through Martin Place on a daily basis, allowing Sydney’s fashion lovers to celebrate Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia outside of the showroom space and to digitally interact with a previously exclusive industry event.

Your chance to win invitations to an exclusive runway show!
To celebrate all things fashion, we are giving Sydneysiders a chance to score two double invitations to the exclusive Zambesi runway show on Friday 10 April at 2pm, plus a backstage tour of the new show site at Carriageworks, Eveleigh. The competition closes April 10 at 5pm. To enter click here.
