After successfully held in Paris and Berlin in 2010, “The Beauty of Chinese Characters—Chinese Calligraphy Exhibition” is proudly brought to Sydney from 4th to 7th this July in Sydney Town Hall. The opening ceremony will be conducted at 16:00 3rd of July in the Lower Town Hall. The Chinese Calligraphers Association and Chinese Calligraphy Court and Chinese Art Court and Ausfeng Events Center organize and host this exhibition.
Chinese calligraphy is a unique artistic form evolving in the Chinese character writing process for thousands years. The Chinese calligraphy has been the representative symbol of Chinese culture. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has classified “Chinese calligraphy” and “Chinese seal carving” as intangible cultural heritage, in September 2009. “The Beauty of Chinese Character—Chinese Calligraphy Exhibition” to be held in Sydney aims at demonstrating the inheritance and development of Chinese calligraphy and promoting the art of the Chinese calligraphy to Australians.
This exhibition collects calligraphic works that are recently created by 60 most famous Chinese contemporary calligraphers. The collection includes the antithetical couplet, the central scroll, the circular fan, doufang (sheets about one foot square with inscription for pasting on wall), horizontal scroll, seal carving and lettering works and the format covers regular script, running hand, grass writing, clerical script and seal script. The contents of the Works mainly focus on ancient poetic prose and essays to show the rich connotation of Chinese long-standing culture. Meanwhile, some of the works express the hope of world peace and the harmonious relationship between human and nature. This Chinese Calligraphy Exhibition adopts byobu to introduce the origin and development of Chinese calligraphy by pictures and texts. It explains the history and civilization carried by Chinese calligraphy from character pattern and literal meaning to show the development of Chinese calligraphy history and its unique charm.
In the opening ceremony, seven calligraphers will demonstrate the writing process. A live performance of the Chinese traditional instrument and a tea ceremony will also be prepared.
