From a giant interactive game of TicTacToe to animatronic dancing lamps, fibre optic sea grass and a luminescent game of hopscotch, Vivid Light will transform Sydney after dark into a playground of free interactive light artworks the whole family can enjoy.
From Friday May 25 the city will be ‘switched on’ each night at 6pm until midnight, offering a sensational display of light art sculptures, interactive installations, illuminated skyscrapers and large scale projections that splash across the Sydney Opera House, Museum of Contemporary Art, Circular Quay and The Rocks.
Vivid Light is the perfect opportunity for families from overseas and around the country to visit the harbour city as it comes alive with light. The mild Sydney winter and intelligent and engaging lighting installations turn the harbour foreshores into a fun-filled and safe wonderland.
A festival highlight, ‘Lighting the Sails’, will see cutting edge German projection artists, URBANSCREEN, transform the iconic Sydney Opera House in a spectacular display of 3D mapped projections, captivating families as they meander around the Quay.
Campbell’s Cove in The Rocks is a prime location to view the iconic sails, and a popular place for families to take their kids to play with a number of interactive light art sculptures, witness the submerged light projections, touch and turn a giant coloured cube and climb in an illuminated igloo.
Children and adults can play a larger than life game of TicTacToe, in First Fleet Park at Circular Quay, in front of thousands of spectators.
With over 50 light installations and so many dynamic designs, families can re-visit many times and discover something new each time. And for an added treat, tune into ABC 702 podcasts as you walk to find out more about some of these amazing light artworks and the artists who created them.
Public transport into Circular Quay is plentiful, with ferry, train and bus interchanges providing multiple options for families to travel to the light-filled harbour foreshores.
