Practicing at the forefront of art and technology, Sydney-based artist Wade Marynowsky’s latest offering builds on his recent national and international exhibitions. In ‘Universal Remote’ he uses diverse materials, from raw timber slabs to custom-built software. The larger than life sized sculptures form an uncanny, futuristic installation.
What is a ‘universal remote? Is it a control device from which you can control the universe – or at least your own universe? Is being ‘universally remote’ a state of being where you are in the world but at the same time detached from it (now that we are all universally connected)? Marynowsky responds to these questions by creating an alternate world. Drawing on strangely familiar psychological spaces, ideas of space travel and totem poles created by tribes in an alternative ‘Steam Punk’ future.
