Coinciding with the ‘animal’ events of November, commencing with the Melbourne Cup, this exhibition is timely and shows excellent examples using a wide variety of ideas and skills.
Particularly featured are the repertoire of animals shown in the outstanding, carved works by Rish Gordon, the edgy, quirky, mixed media works by Emily Valentine (Bullock) and the amazing, colourful, large scale blown “parrot”-themed works by Noel Hart.
Mark Eliott will also introduce his lamp-worked installation project which led to the creation of the animation film, ‘Dr. Mermaid and the Abovemarine’. Mark produced this short film in collaboration with Jack McGrath, winning the Peoples Choice Award at the Sydney Underground Film Festival, 2010.
We will be featuring a showing of this whimsical yet serious ‘glass-mation’ film during the opening.
These works, together with more surprises including Lee Howes and Miki Kubo, exemplify the diversity of ideas inspired by the animal kingdom.
